Shad Flies

by john on March 30, 2009

I have been making these small flies for catching Shad at the tailrace canal at the upper end of the Cooper River. It is patterned after the small jigs we use to catch them.

Hook: Gamakatsu SL11-3H #6

Next attach a small clump of Supreme hair (about half a pencil diameter). Attach to the bottom of the hook just behind the eyes.

Dub some pink fibers onto the thread. Here I have used ice wing fiber in hot pink. UV shrimp dub is also nice.
