fishing report 9-1-09

by john on September 5, 2009

I apologize it has been so long since my last report. Finished out the summer great lots of perfect weather and great fishing this year. Everything is still going strong. Jetties are fishing great for the big reds, topwater fishing has been outstanding, and the fly has been most productive.

I have been doing the best at the jetties on the falling tide. Fishing mullet, menhaden, and blue crab has been great.

Topwater has been a big focus for charters this summer. I have been using spooks (swimming mullet), yozuri (banana boat), and rapalas (skitter walk). We are starting a lot of these trips at 5:30am and have been getting some nice action on some lights at first and then moving out over the shells and to the grasses as the light comes up.

On the flats a variety of things are working well. We have been doing well with the fly using small bead chain clousers, shrimp patterns, and small poppers. The fish are really keyed in on the shrimp now and I have been seeing lots of good activity at low tide in the morning last week.

Fall is just around the corner and the fish are acting like it. See you out there.
